Older homes, older cable. Bellville has many houses built decades ago in Welgemoed, Oakdale and Protea Valley. Their original coax cable and connectors have often been in the sun for a long time, and the signal at the wall plate falls well below what a decoder needs. When we find that on a meter, we replace the run with UV-stable RG6 and weatherproof compression connectors.
Complexes and body corporates. Much of Brackenfell and Bellville is townhouse clusters, sectional-title blocks and retirement villages. Individual dishes on a shared roof create arguments and damage, so many complexes prefer one shared dish with a multiswitch. That needs trustee approval and a written quote, which is what our communal DSTV installation service covers. Ask your managing agent what the rules are before we visit.
Slopes, trees and wind. Homes on the Tygerberg slopes around Welgemoed and Panorama have a wide view but catch the wind. In Vredekloof and Protea Heights, newer gardens are growing trees that will eventually shade a north-east dish. We check the line of sight before we drill and brace the mount for the southeaster that blows across the northern suburbs.
