About our Electrician service
- Jobs start from R450
- Done to SANS 10142
- Backup power and surge protection
- Aircon, gate and stove circuits
We handle everyday electrical work for homes and small businesses in Cape Town, the Winelands, Helderberg, the Overberg and the West Coast. That covers tripping circuits, dead plugs, DB board upgrades, new lights, dedicated circuits for aircon, gate motors and stoves, surge protection, and inverter and battery backup installs.
All electrical work is done to SANS 10142, the national wiring code, and the work is certified where it requires a certificate. We keep the work neat: labelled breakers, tidy cabling and no loose wires left behind. If your job involves a Certificate of Compliance, see electrical COC certificates.
Because we also install CCTV, gate motors and aircon, we can fit the electrical supply those systems need in the same visit.
Electrical work we do
-
Fault finding and tripping
Circuits that trip, plugs that stopped working, lights that flicker, a burning smell at the board. We trace the fault, explain it and fix it.
-
DB board upgrades and replacement
Old rewireable fuse boxes and overloaded boards replaced with a modern DB board, with earth leakage and surge protection. Often needed before an aircon, a stove or a COC.
-
Plugs, lights and LED retrofits
New plug points, light fittings and swapping old downlights and tubes for LED to cut your electricity bill.
-
Outdoor and security lighting
Sensor lights, garden lights and security floodlights on the driveway, back door and perimeter. Weatherproof fittings for coastal homes.
-
Dedicated circuits
Own circuits for an aircon, gate motor, stove, geyser or pool pump, so they stop tripping the whole house.
-
Surge protection
Protection at the DB board for TVs, decoders, routers, gate motors and appliances, against surges when power returns after load shedding or a storm.
-
Prepaid meters
Wiring and DB board work around prepaid meters, including moving the meter box and tidying the supply.
-
Renovation wiring
Rewiring for new rooms, extensions and kitchens, and for walls you have opened up during renovations.
-
Inverter and battery backup installs
Backup power for lights, plugs, Wi-Fi and the fridge. Details below.
-
Solar
Ask us about solar. We will tell you what we can do for your home.
Load shedding, inverters and battery backup

An inverter with a battery runs your essential circuits when the power is off: lights, TV, Wi-Fi router, phone chargers, fridge and, on a larger system, a gate motor and CCTV. We install the inverter and wire those circuits to a separate backup board, with a changeover that stops power feeding back into the grid.
Be realistic about what a backup system can run. Geysers, stoves, kettles and aircon draw far more power than a small battery can supply for long, so they usually stay off the backup circuits. We size the inverter and battery to what you actually want to run and for how long, instead of selling a bigger system than you need.
Inverters and batteries are alterations to your installation, so they must be wired and certified correctly. Some insurers also ask for a COC after the work.
Tripping, surges and why your DB board matters
A circuit that trips is doing its job. Common reasons are an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor fitting, or an earth leakage unit picking up a small fault. We isolate the circuit, test each appliance and find the cause, rather than just resetting the breaker or fitting a bigger one, which is unsafe.
Load shedding adds a second problem: when the power comes back, it can arrive with a surge that damages decoders, routers, gate boards and fridge controllers. Surge protection at the DB board, plus plug-in protection on sensitive equipment, is cheap compared with replacing them.
Older homes in the Winelands and the Southern Suburbs often still have fuse boxes or boards that cannot take a modern stove, aircon or geyser. A DB board upgrade fixes that and is usually the first step before a COC.
Lights, plugs and renovations
Renovations are the best time to fix the electrics. With walls open, new plug points, extra circuits and better lighting cost far less than cutting into finished walls later. We plan where the plugs go with you: kitchen counters, behind the TV, next to the bed, in the garage and outside for the braai or pool.
LED retrofits are the cheapest way to cut your bill. Replacing old halogen downlights and fluorescent tubes with LED uses a fraction of the power, runs cooler and lasts years longer. Outdoor sensor lights and floodlights also help your CCTV pick up a clearer image at night.

How an electrical job works
Tell us the problem
Call or WhatsApp us with a description and, if you can, a photo of your DB board.
Callout and fault finding
We test the circuits, find the cause and explain it in plain language.
Quote
You get the price for the repair or installation before we start. Larger jobs get a written quote.
Work done and tested
We do the work to SANS 10142, test every circuit and label the DB board.
Certification where required
If the work requires a Certificate of Compliance, we arrange it. See our COC page.
What it costs
No surprises: you get the price before we book, and before any work starts.
The price depends on the fault, the number of plugs, lights or circuits involved and the state of your DB board. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a price, and a photo of your DB board helps.
Send a photo of the dish, the fault or the wall on WhatsApp and we’ll come back with a price, usually within working hours.
Electrician questions
Straight answers to what people ask us most. Anything else, WhatsApp a photo and ask.
How much does an electrician cost?
Electrical jobs start from R450. The price depends on the fault, the number of plugs, lights or circuits involved and the state of your DB board. Repairs are quoted after we find what is wrong, and bigger jobs get a written quote after a site visit. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for an exact price, and send a photo of your DB board if you can.
Why does my electricity keep tripping?
Usually an overloaded circuit, a faulty appliance, moisture in a light or outdoor plug, or an earth leakage unit detecting a small fault. Unplug everything on the circuit, reset the breaker, then plug items back one by one. If it still trips, call us. Do not fit a bigger breaker. It removes the protection.
Can you install an inverter and battery backup?
Yes. We install inverters and batteries wired to a separate backup board for lights, plugs, Wi-Fi and fridge, with a proper changeover. We size the system for what you want to run and how long. Geysers, stoves and aircon usually stay off backup circuits. Ask us on 081 232 2249 and we will talk you through it.
Do I need a new DB board?
You may if your board has old rewireable fuses, trips often, has no earth leakage unit, has no spare breaker space, or you are adding an aircon, stove or geyser. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a DB board upgrade price. We check yours on a visit and tell you if it needs replacing or if a repair is enough.
Do I need surge protection?
If you use a decoder, TV, router, gate motor or fridge, it is worth having. Load shedding, storms and grid faults can send voltage spikes through your wiring. Surge protection at the DB board covers the whole house, and the price depends on your board, so call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a price. We recommend plug-in protection as well on expensive electronics.
Can you arrange an electrical COC?
Yes. We arrange Certificates of Compliance, which are issued by a registered electrical contractor. COCs are also needed when selling a house and for some insurance claims. Our COC certificates page explains when you need one, what the inspection checks and what happens if it fails.
Do you do solar installations?
Ask us about solar when you call. We can tell you what we offer for your property. For backup power alone, an inverter with a battery is available now, and it can often be extended later. We will not sell you more capacity than you need.
