About our Gate motor repairs service

  • All gate motor brands repaired
  • Jobs start from R450
  • Batteries and remotes on hand
  • Same-day callouts often possible

Most gate motor faults come down to four things: a tired battery, a blocked safety beam, a gate that has become hard to move, or a control board hit by a power surge. A technician can tell which in the first few minutes with a multimeter and a look at the gate. Same-day callouts are often possible across Cape Town, the Winelands and the West Coast.

We repair all brands, including Centurion, ET, Gemini and Nice, and we bring common batteries and remotes with us where we can. If the motor is beyond economical repair, we tell you honestly and quote a replacement under gate motor installation.

Gate motor faults we fix

Find your symptom below. If it does not match, call us and describe what the gate does.

beeping low battery new battery
  • Beeping

Beeping usually means a low or dead battery, a power failure the motor is reporting, or a safety beam that is blocked or knocked out of line. Check that nothing is in front of the beams and the lenses are clean. If it keeps beeping, the battery is the next suspect.

  • Gate not closing or not opening

Common causes are a flat battery, an obstruction, misaligned safety beams, worn wheels or a gate that has dropped and now drags on the track. We test the battery and board, then check the gate itself, because a stiff gate makes a good motor look faulty.

  • Slow gate

A gate that has slowed down is usually fighting friction: dry or worn wheels, a dirty track, a loose or worn rack, or a battery that cannot supply full power. We clean, lubricate and adjust the travel and force settings, and replace worn parts.

  • Dead after lightning or a surge

If the motor has no lights and no response after a storm, the control board or charger is usually damaged. We test the board and power supply. Many boards can be repaired or replaced, and we fit surge protection so it does not happen again.

  • Remotes not working

A dead remote battery is the easiest fix. If that does not help, the remote may need re-programming to the motor, or the receiver could be faulty. We re-program remotes on site and replace lost or damaged ones.

What we repair and replace

remote intercom safety beams
  • Battery replacement

We test the battery and replace it if it fails a load test, fitting the correct size for your motor. Most batteries last around two to three years.

  • Control board (PCB) repairs

Board repair or replacement for storm and surge damage, water damage and worn-out relays.

  • Remote programming

Adding, removing and re-programming remotes and keypads. Useful when you move house and want the old remotes disabled.

  • Servicing

A full service: clean, lubricate, check the rack, wheels and gears, test the battery and adjust the force. A yearly service avoids most breakdowns.

  • All brands repaired

Centurion, ET, Gemini, Nice and most others. If we cannot get parts for an old motor, we say so before you pay for anything.

Battery, power and storm damage

surge arrester protected

A gate motor battery that is two to three years old and has done daily duty through load shedding is often the problem. A weak battery can open the gate once and then fail, or beep every time the motor starts. We replace it with the correct type and check that the charger is working, because a dead charger kills new batteries too.

For lightning and surges, the fix is usually a repaired or replaced board plus better protection. Surge protection at the gate and at the DB board stops a repeat. Our electrical team can fit surge protection and a dedicated circuit for the motor on the same visit.

How to open your gate manually

Every motor has a manual release so you are never locked in or out. The exact release differs between brands, so ask us to show you yours on the day. The general method is the same.

release key lever push by hand
  1. Switch the motor off

If your motor has an on/off switch or you can switch off at the DB board, do that first so the gate cannot start while you handle it.

  2. Find the release

Most sliding motors have a lever or knob under a cover on the side of the motor. Unlock the cover with the key and open it.

  3. Release the motor

Turn the key or pull the lever to disengage the gear from the rack. You will feel the gate become free.

  4. Push the gate by hand

Slide or swing the gate open or closed. A gate in good order should move without much force. If it is heavy, tell us.

  5. Re-engage afterwards

Return the lever to its locked position, push the gate until you hear it engage, then switch the power back on and test it with the remote.

What it costs

No surprises: you get the price before we book, and before any work starts.

Jobs start from R450

The price depends on what has failed (battery, remote, board or the gate itself) and the parts needed. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a price. A short video or photo of the fault helps.

Send a photo of the dish, the fault or the wall on WhatsApp and we’ll come back with a price, usually within working hours.

Gate motor repairs questions

Straight answers to what people ask us most. Anything else, WhatsApp a photo and ask.

Why is my gate motor beeping?

Most often the battery is flat or failing, or the safety beams are blocked or out of line. Check that nothing is across the beam and that the lenses are clean. If the beeping continues, the battery needs testing. Jobs start from R450, and the price of a replacement battery depends on the size your motor takes. We bring common sizes where we can.

How often should the battery be replaced?

Plan on every two to three years. Heavy gates, daily traffic, hot enclosures and repeated load shedding shorten that. Signs of a tired battery are slow opening, beeping, or the gate stopping during a power cut. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a battery price. Annual servicing catches a weak battery before the gate stops.

How do I open my gate manually?

Switch the motor off, unlock the cover, then turn the release key or lever to disengage the gear and push the gate by hand. To re-engage, return the lever and push the gate until it locks in. Release types differ between brands. See the steps above, or ask us to show you on your motor.

My gate stopped working after a storm. Is it the board?

Probably, if there are no lights on the motor. Power surges and lightning damage control boards and chargers. We test both. The price of a board repair or replacement depends on the motor brand, so call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a price. We also fit surge protection so the next storm does not do the same. If the motor has lights but does not move, it may be only the battery.

Can you reprogram remotes if I lose one?

Yes. We erase lost remotes so they stop working and program new ones. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a price. This is also worth doing when you move into a new house, because previous owners may still have working remotes. Bring any remotes you want to keep, and we will test them all.

Is a service worth it?

Yes, on any gate that runs daily. A service covers cleaning, lubrication, the rack and wheels, force settings and a battery test. Many breakdowns come from worn wheels and weak batteries, which a service finds early. That beats an emergency callout when the gate fails with your car outside. Call or WhatsApp 081 232 2249 for a service price.
