Hills and wind. Durbanville sits on rolling hills, so a roof in Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville Hills or Vierlanden is often more exposed than one in a hollow, even a few streets away. A summer southeaster or a winter northwester can move a dish that was never braced. We fit galvanised brackets, tighten the clamps to the manufacturer's spec and brace tall mounts so they do not rock.
Long runs on big properties. On wine farms, smallholdings and large plots, the outbuildings and cottages may sit 30 to 60 metres from the house. Long cable runs lose signal, so we use UV-stable RG6, keep joins to a minimum and use weatherproof compression connectors. Sometimes a second dish at the cottage works better than one very long run.
Estates and older streets. Estates such as Pinehurst, Graanendal and Welgevonden usually have design rules about where a dish may sit, so check with your homeowners' association first. In older streets around Eversdal and Aurora, we often find original thin cable that fails after years in the sun. We replace it when we test the run and find the readings low.
