The southeaster funnels through the Helderberg basin and along the False Bay coast, mostly in summer. A dish is a small sail on a pole. On a thin bracket with loose bolts it moves in every gust, and the signal comes and goes with the wind. We use galvanised brackets, a stronger mast and a bracing stay on long arms. Homes close to the water in Strand, Harbour Island and Gordon's Bay also get salt air, so we fit weatherproof compression connectors there.
Somerset West has several retirement villages, including Helderberg Village and the Somerset Lifestyle & Retirement Village. When every unit has its own dish, every unit also has its own wind and age problems, and each fault is a separate callout. A communal DSTV system puts one set of equipment in one place and a wall point in each unit. We quote after a site visit within our normal service areas. In each unit we set up the decoder and show you the remote.
Many estates and complexes have rules about where a dish may go. If you live in an estate such as Erinvale, Heritage Park or Fairview Golf Estate, check with your estate office or body corporate first. We can suggest a position out of sight from the street that still has a clear view of the sky. On the Gordon's Bay mountainside, steep stands below the Hottentots-Holland slopes can limit where the dish can sit, so we meter the view before we drill.
